Squeezebox classic stopped working

OK, how I got this thing to work in the past is been hit or
miss--usually by turning it off and rebooting I could get it to work.
With a recent squeeze center upgrade about 6 months ago it seems my
player became dissociated from my squeeze network on my Mac but it
would recognize my wireless and access my pandora account
flawlessly-without my computer being on. But about a 2 weeks ago the
squeezebox gave me a message that it could not access the wireless. It
turned out that my router had lost it's encryption settings including
network name. Upon resetting the WEP key and network name, when I
turned on the squeezebox I get a set language message but using the
remote I cannot proceed with setting language or anything else. Any
ideas? I've changed the batteries in the remote to no avail. Can I
access the squeezebox from my computer?

Thanks in advance

do a search in the forums for a reset of the SB3. There are a couple
of different resets, I haven't ever needed either so sorry I couldn't
just tell you them.

SB3 HARD RESET:
Unplug power, press and hold down the add (+) button on the remote,
plug power back in (whilst continuing to hold down the add button)
+ = factory reset
Unplug power, press and hold down the one (1) button on the remote,
plug power back in (whilst continuing to hold down the one button)
1 = Xilinx

But you need a working remote to perform these resets.

I think the remote is needed for initial setup, no UI control of the
SB3 until the SB3 is connected to your network and connected to a
server (SBS or MySB).;;A

A very common SB3 remote problem is the IR emitter becomes
un-soldered.
try cracking open the remote and looking for loose solder connections.

Any chance a universal remote could be used to at least connect to
network?

Set up the universal remote with JVC DVD player IR codes.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think you need the Squeezebox
server for that to work. I'm not sure the SB itself can handle those
codes during initial setup.

First you can check it with a digital camera. You should see the
flashing IR LED when you have a look thru a digital camera. Test first
with a known good remote.
