[slim] Tidal - problem with HIFi subscription not playing FLAC

Hi

I am using the Tidal free trial for HiFi subscription. I can't seem to
p[lay any files in FLAC, when I check the file type playing it is always
mp3 256kbps. I have gone into the tidal settings both via a browser and
also Ipeng and clicked on FLAC but this has now effect. I have rebooted
the Touch to see if that would help it change, it hasn't.

I am using LMS 7.6.1 and have not updated as I am using an old Vortexbox
for my Source (I am not technically minded so not able to update this
to be able to update LMS). I am using the Tidal app v1.2. As i haven't
been able to update LMS I am no longer able to use Spotify, had been
using it on a Chromecast but that meant changing sources on the hifi and
not being able to add music and play seemlessly, Tidal means I can now
do this. If I can't get FLAC on the Touch then i will downgrade to
Premium but as it's currently free would like to see how much difference
there is.

Any help gratefully received.

Thanks

SBS runnig on iMac although considering Vortexbox or NAS

Well, that won't do it. You'll have to update. FLAC support was only
added in 7.7.x

Is it too old to have the upgrade
https://www.vortexbox.org/forum/main-forum/789-squeezebox-server-7-9-1-for-vortexbox
or is the problem that update would wipe your local music?

I am running an old version of Vortexbox, possibly 1.6, not upgraded to
v2 at all as beyond my know-how, even if an upgrade wiped my music I
have it backed up on an external USB drive. At the time i purchased I
was considering a NAS but went for Vortexbox due to the ripping software
and didn't really consider the expert need for updates etc. Incremental
updates were fine but it was the overhaul that moving to v2 required as,
if I recall, it needed an update to the Linux OS as well.

As regards this comment 'FLAC support was only added in 7.7.x', I assume
that simply relates to the Tidal app running FLAC as my SBT plays FLAC
files from the Vortexbox without any problems.
