Google "Old time Radio" and you'll see there are radio programs from 50s
and earlier - many were serials - westerns, detectives etc.
This is an archive but not for streaming.

Back when Radio was a national pastime, people used to sit around and
listen to radio dramatic stories, told, narrated, acted, scored and full
of sound effects, just like watching an old black and white movie w/out
the picture. But better, because these were produced knowing that sound
was the only sense available, and they had to engage the listeners
imagination. Some were dreadfully cheesy, but some were fantastic, and
kids couldn't stop listening.

See stations such as:

For anyone too young, or who yet heard Orson Welles War of the Worlds,
spend some time to listen to it. It terrified the nation.

There is a ton of good old-time radio out there. Maybe it does not all
play on our squeezebox players but it is still good.

Might I suggest jean Shepherd who years ago had a show on WOR in NY 6
nights a wk. Author of the Christmas Story movie/story and many books.

Excelsior you fatheads !

What are the best stations for radio classics...
Been an old time radio listener for over 3 decades.

Antioch AM 1710 is the best I've found. They play shows from the same
DATE (not year, obviously) 99% of the time
http://radio.macinmind.com/

Brando Classic OTR is my 2nd favorite.
